All Aboard the (censor)Ship

So, live on air again on http://www.vectisradio.com and I’m peppering the playlist with my own sounds and loves… just about to drop Blakroc’s “Hoochie Coo” and Missy E’s “Can’t Stop” when (and this is AS they go on air) I realise that I haven’t checked them for swear words!!

(This after I received a message from a listener saying that I’d just dropped “fuckers” in the middle of Public Enemy’s “Shut Em Down”. Since when do PE swear???

Since I fucking play them, obviously!!

The show grows and I’ve had to adjust the title to “The Tramp In The Shed’s Soul, RnB, Jazz, Hip Hop, Breakbeat and Funk Show” but luckily I talk fast as hell so it’s not too bad.

Confuses the hell out of my American listeners though.

Life away from the radio show is steady but starting to get a little harder – mostly thru choice. Buying two taxis, insuring them, maintaining them and running them will bite me for a year but hopefully reap the benefits after this period. Still, without risks what is life.

My Canadian holiday fast approaches and my fear of flying grows, but my want to visit the place beats it. Just.

Bam-wise, my three year old grows and becomes more fun by the day, and this morning we spent 4 hours with Thomas The Tank Engine at the local railway – which was a success. Plus I managed to catch up with some old friends as well.

Still, I apologise, this blog is turning into a diary which is exactly what I didn’t want to do, so I shall endeavour to sort my shit out next week, but felt that I did need to touch base this week.

Stay tuned. In more ways than one.

Blogging While LIVE on Air?

Yes, it can be done. In fact, I’m doing it now! I host an RnB, Soul, Motown, Jazz and Hip Hop show on http://www.vectisradio.com every Sunday 3-6pm (UK time) and I’m sat at the dash right now, playing Smokey Robinson and The Tracks of My Tears as I type this.

In the above blog, I mention that the station offered me 4 days a week. Alas, that has gone to another DJ (a mutual decision by myself and Vectis as I wasn’t sure I could juggle four days as well as my day job. Jobs.) and he’s a lovely guy and I wish him well.

This has left me to concentrate on my own show, and I’m expanding. The playlist is fine, don’t get me wrong, but I was born around 10 years after the Motown explosion, and while I love it, I feel that I need to bring a few things to the playlist table.

As such, in recent weeks I’ve dropped in Eric Sermon’s Marvyn Gaye sample-heavy “Music” (brilliant, brilliant track) and today I’ve squeezed in some “Better Days” by Speech Debelle and I’ve still got DJ Shadow’s “Organ Donor” and some Public Enemy to come!

Hopefully with the playlist expanding as it is my show will become more solid, and the increase in listeners is starting to prove me right! Despite all those years of my parents telling me I have bad taste in music! Ha! Now who’s right???

Blog numero uno!

You won’t believe how many times I’ve re-written the opening paragraph of this blog. Ok, you probably would, but bear with me as this is my first ever attempt!!

No, not at writing, but my first ever blogging-attempt. I’ve been writing since I was a young, young lad and had to start my first two years on this planet with my legs in a brace. My family encouraged me to read at a very early age (as I couldn’t do much else!) and writing was the natural progression from there.

I remember reading ‘Terrahawks’ books and then writing my own stories about them. I’m pretty sure mine were better as well…

But I digress. This blog will be about me and my every day life-

No, no wait!! Come back!! Honestly, I promise you it’s worth reading. I’m a taxi/bus driver and I can see humour/horror/meaning in everything, and my status updates on facebook have become legendary (in _my_ own lifetime at least), which is why it’s now time to blog-away and unleash myself upon the rest of the world!

I also have a son called Bam who’s pretty much my partner in crime, and he’s been out on bus jobs with me. I’m telling ya, any drivers, waitresses, mechanics, toll booth workers, anyone that wants better tips, just take your kid to work with you. Works like a charm!

Ok, maybe not you mechanics. Not unless your kid can change a tyre.

Right, I’m gonna leave this right here as I have work in a moment. Oh, I didn’t mention that ‘this’ next job is my weekly slot on an online radio station called Vectis Radio. Give it a listen if you’ve got nothing else on and you’ll be able to hear my dulcit tones every now and then!

Plus they’ve just offered to expand my sunday show to monday to friday… but I’m still considering the offer…

Until next time.
